The Developmental Social and Cognitive Neuroscience (DevSCN) Lab
About
At the Developmental Social and Cogntive Neuroscience (DevSCN) Lab, the goal is to understand children and adolescents from a cognitive viewpoint. In order to accomplish the objective, DevSCN lab employs a comprehensive approach that involves the examination of demographic and lifestyle factors that influence the development of cognitive and social cognitive abilities, as well as the corresponding evolution of brain structure and function. In its research, DevSCN lab takes a further step and investigates the development of neurocognition in both Neurotypical and neurodivergent children and adolescents.
Team
The DevSCN lab is led by Dr. Bobby Stojanoski, whose primary research is designed to examine the link between social and cognitive development in relation to the changes in the structure and function of the brain, particularly focusing on the role of sleep, exercise, and brain training on various aspects of cognition. The DevSCN Lab is a comprehensive lab with various team members contributing to various enhancements in research, including Ph.D. student Sara Saljoughi, MSc students Brianna Hughes, Dylan Rapanan, and honours thesis students Zedd Whitacker and Kylie Carr.
Current Projects
The DevSCN lab is currently focusing on 5 various research projects, The first being shared social experiences. We can gain insight into the neural mechanisms that influence the development of social cognition and the social interactions of neurotypical and neurodivergent children and adolescents by utilizing brain synchronization measures that mimic the real world. In addition, the DevSCN lab is researching cognitive and neurodevelopment by examining the extensive period of change that the brain and cognitive abilities undergo from early childhood to adolescence. The lab is particularly intrigued by the impact of demographics and lifestyle preferences. The DevSCN lab is also in the process of investigating the potential of brain training to either foster or impede neural mechanisms. Additionally, the DevSCN lab is conducting research to investigate the correlations between sleep behaviour and cognition. Finally, the DevSCN lab is intrigued by the manner in which attention, memory, and perception interact to generate a coherent experience of our surroundings while simultaneously retaining the most pertinent information and disregarding all others.
