Research Background
Dr. Karla Emeno is a forensic psychologist with backgrounds in geographic profiling, police stress, and predictive crime mapping. She began her research career during her PhD through her dissertation, which examined the near repeat space-time clustering and prospective hot-spotting of Canadian crime. Since then she has worked on publications including “The Effectiveness of Calibrated Versus Default Distance Decay Functions for Geographic Profiling: A Preliminary Examination of Crime Type,” “Classifying Serial Sexual Murder/Murderers: An Attempt to Validate Keppel and Walter’s (1999) Model," and “The Precision, Accuracy, and Efficiency of Geographic Profiling Predictions: A Simple Heuristic Versus Mathematical Algorithms. Crime Mapping: A Journal of Research and Practice,” and more.On top of her own research, Dr. Karla Emeno has worked to advance student knowledge through supervision of many students in the research area of evaluation and methods of improving various psychologically-based investigative techniques.
