Background
Dr. Nima Nakhaei received his PhD in Political Science from York University in 2020. His research, positioned at the intersection of radical political economy, relational state theory, and critical discourse analysis, explores historical continuities, ruptures, and transformations in the Global South. Within this interdisciplinary framework, he engages with two interrelated structural and conjunctural questions. He examines how the political economy, state formations, and identity discourses in the Global South have been shaped by their peripheral incorporation into the metropolitan mode of production. Building on this foundation, he explores how crises in the ‘world order’ create new spaces for projects of both domination and emancipation. His forthcoming book, State and Development in Post-Revolutionary Iran, under contract with Brill, focuses on state formation in post-revolutionary Iran through the lens of Poulantzasian state theory.
Prior to joining Ontario Tech University, he taught at York University, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Trent University.
