Legal Studies

The following are the program maps for the Legal Studies program for those entering second, third, or fourth year. Please refer only to the info for the year you are entering. 

If you have not selected a specialization, you are in the Comprehensive program. If you have chosen a specialization, please refer to the specialization maps for Alternative Dispute Resolution, Human Rights Law or Information Law. If you would like to declare a specialization, please complete the Change of Specialization form

Please keep in mind that if you are out of sequence, these maps may not be right for you. Please review your full Program Map, along with your academic transcript, to guide your registration. We are happy to assist anyone who is unsure of their degree progression or their requirements for degree completion. **If considering a specialization, we recommend choosing all three options (LGLS2120U, LGLS2420U and LGLS2500U), as they are required for future specializations. If taking all three courses, two will count as a legal studies elective if you remain in the comprehensive program.

**The Honours Thesis I and II require an application and a minimum 3.7 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Students must successfully complete the requirements for Honours Thesis I in the fall semester in order to be able to take Honours Thesis II in the winter semester.

Please Note: Not all specialization courses are offered every academic year. Other courses within this specialization may be offered in the next academic year.   Students will need to plan their specialization course choices carefully and are encouraged to reach out to Academic Advising for further support.

Legal Studies elective options

The following is a list of legal studies elective options offered for this academic year. Please Note: if you are pursuing a specialization some of these courses are required and therefore not eligible to be counted as a legal studies elective. 

A "Legal Studies Elective" is any non‐required course that begins with subject code LGLS, or CRMN 2010U Criminal Law or CRMN 4032U Mediation and Conflict Resolution. 
A "3000 or 4000 level LGLS course" must be LGLS code (ie. cannot be CRMN).
